The vast majority of manga is still produced in black and white, even without the colour restrictions of the past. 7: Tonesīlack and white comics are a valid stylistic choice when presenting your work. Brush stabilization can also lend a helping hand with smoother strokes. Using a variety of brush presets that emulate real-world inking tools, we’ll be working on pumping up our pencils. We’ll take a look at the types of assistants available and learn how to use them in conjunction with other tools to make technical and perspective drawing a snap. I'm sure Gimp or something else is better suited for this (its free as well).Īlso, you might also check out Inkscape for vector based stuff (as a free replacement for Illustrator) since you mentioned using Illustrator. In this series, instructor Ian MacLean will be guiding you through Krita to make a comic. I also wouldn't recommend it for high end photo editing, although it can do most of the basics pretty well here too.

It can still get the job done for basic stuff like this though. I wouldn't recommend it for UI or web design because the vector system isn't as good, layer styles and text editing is more limited. Its very streamlined for this and has good brushes and tools to assist in that. I would definitely recommend it over photoshop for all things painting. I use it for painting (realistic and stylized, line art, etc), and even for painting textures for 3d models. I personally ditched photoshop many years ago for Krita and never looked back. If its painting then Krita is definitely better. You don't mention what it is you actually do with photoshop. stuff like that, which you cannot get in a commercial software.

On the fundraisers people can vote what feature will get a priority in implementation.

You can contact developers, talk to them directly, share your opinions, you can submit bug reports and if it's a crash, it will get a priority and you'll see the progress on the bug report. Krita is developed both by paid developers and volunteers together (and the paid ones were always volunteers first).

Full version is free for all systems (and the source code is sure to be always open and free). It's hard to write down just everything, some differences are here: but it's a bit outdated, it would be easier if you write what you're specifically interested in.Īlso, yes. And the eraser mode (make every brush into eraser easily) - how do you think, who Photoshop stole it from recently? :P Also M to quickly put canvas into mirroring mode. There are also things like assistants (rules, ellpise assistant, vanishing points, perspective) and stabillizers built-in, you can have every layer in a different color space, there are features like wrap-around mode (to paint seamless textures) or Colorize Mask (non-destructive automatic coloring). You'll still find filters and non-destructive editing, and you'll probably see that Krita's layer stack is more powerful. Much less features for photo editing, more features for painters.
